"The Appointment in Samarra" Reaction

Things may not always be what they seem. In the short story, "The Appointment in Samarra", by W. Somerset Maugham, it seems that the moral is simply that you cannot avoid death. Perhaps the story is saying that while death may seem random to us, death itself is actually calculating and precise, maybe even organized. The authors take on the subject is extremely clever. This read was very enjoyable, particularly the wit displayed by the author in the last line.
